This weekend, Northmont competed in the Texas Open, a two-day event at Trinity University in San Antonio. With the exception of a couple of teams, every team there was a top-100 team, or a hybrid team of the best players from several schools.

Northmont finished 6th on the MUT set on Saturday, losing a couple of close games, but knocking off #6 Chattahoochee twice. (Saturday stats: http://www.texasquizbowl.org/d/@150328TI6MUT/)

On Sunday, Northmont finished 2nd on the NAQT D2 ICT set, losing in the championship game to #1 LASA A in a tiebreaker after we led by 70 with 2 to play. We dropped two games early, but in the double elimination playoff, we were able to knock off #2 DCC, #4 Auburn, and a ridiculous hybrid team of the best player from #14 IMSA and the two best players from #24 U Chicago Lab twice. This is the second time our team has played this event and the third time Sam has played (he flew down and played solo last year). It is always a lot of fun to play 28 games in 36 hours and is excellent nationals prep. Didn't know we would be playing the hybrid teams (there were 4 total) until we got down there, so that was a bit of a surprise.

On a side note, the 'hell is up with hybrid teams being a thing? Is there no such thing as school pride anymore?
