Ethan Huang and the Case Western Reserve University are proud to present the Spring Trash Tournament on March 22, 2014 at CWRU.

TRASH questions are taken from the areas of movies, tv, music, sports, games, computers, video games, etc., anything not really considered "academic."
The set is currently in production and will feature questions by Bob Kilner, Tom Moore, Shashank Raghavachari, Kenji Golimlim, John Timmer, Alex Connor, Dan Pechi, S. Gangavarapu, W. Ali, Matt Laird, and small contributions by others.

**There are mirrors being arranged currently in the Columbus, Youngstown and southern Ohio regions. The contact information and dates for those tournaments will be available soon.**

There is a cap of 2 teams per school for this tournament since the tournament will be capped overall at 32 teams. Additional teams will be placed on a waitlist. Please do not register a certain number of teams and bring less than you have registered or not show up at all. That’s extremely frustrating to tournament planners.

Our plan, just like previous years, is to have 8-team brackets, so that every team is guaranteed seven rounds. After round 7, all teams that finish 1st and 2nd in the four brackets will be placed into a single-elimination playoff bracket. Therefore, all teams are guaranteed 7 games. The matches will be tossup/bonus (NAQT/HSAPQ) format, 20 questions per round.

The cost for this year's tournament is $60 per team with a $5 discount per buzzer set (no limit but we will only take a maximum of 20-22 sets). There is no JV division, all teams will play in the varsity division. That said, many times teams that are dynamite at regular quizbowl are awful at TRASH and vice versa, so it really can't be predicted how a team will do that hasn't played in the past. All registrations come with a copy of the questions, emailed out once all mirrors are complete. Remember, nobody wants to play slap bowl, so bringing buzzers and receiving your discount is also a wise idea. IF YOU BRING MORE THAN 1 TEAM, YOU ARE REQUIRED TO BRING AN EXPERIENCED READER TO HELP MODERATE MATCHES. We will have several of our own readers available, but we do not have the staff to cover all of the rooms necessary.

*If you haven’t participated before or not in awhile, you can email Bob Kilner for a set of old questions for practice at theamazingbobbo@aol.com.

The general schedule will be:
8-8:30 Registration in Rockefeller 301 (Rockefeller and all game room buildings are located on the Case Western quad)
8:45- General Meeting
9am - Round 1 starts
11:30-12:30 - Lunch - Most folks go to places on Euclid Avenue, Little Italy or the (most-popular spot) University Hospital cafeteria.
12:45-1:45pm - Rounds 6 and 7
2pm - Playoff announcement
2-2:30pm - quarterfinals
2:30pm - semifinals
3:00pm - finals
**Please note: schedule is tentative. This is a best-case scenario schedule.

As you can see from the schedule above -- registration runs until 8:30 with the meeting shortly thereafter. WE WILL NOT WAIT FOR YOU! Unless there's some unforeseen disaster (a blizzard the night before, a car accident, etc), we will be starting play at 9am, so plan accordingly to be at CWRU by 8:30 at the latest.
If you do run into difficulties arriving on time the day of the tournament, you can contact me at 330-208-3957.

The championship and runner-up teams will receive awards. To make things run faster, we will NOT be keeping individual stats this year. The bracket heads will be keeping track of records and points per game to expedite the playoff announcement process.

Please note: You CANNOT use this tournament as a qualifier for OAC regionals.

Please make the check out to "Case College Trivia Club" and mail to:

Additionally, you can bring the check/cash with you the morning of the tournament - please email me if you will be doing this.

If you have any questions or wish to register, please email me at yeh4@case.edu - we look forward to seeing you at Case on March 22!

Thanks,
Ethan Huang and the Case College Trivia Club
