South Range tournament, 10/31

Postby QuizBoss » Mon Aug 10, 2015 3:54 pm

Hello, everyone --

After some discussions with the host regarding meals available during the day, I'm happy to announce South Range's quizbowl/academic challenge/prep bowl tournament to be held on Saturday, October 31, 2015. This tournament is using the question set LIMIT from Lexington, Massachusetts and edited by South Range's own Jarret Greene. The current field cap is 24 teams; that may be raised depending on the number staff teams commit to bringing. In a change from the preliminary announcement, teams beyond the first from any particular school will NOT be waitlisted.

Entry fees are $65 for the first team from a school and $55 for each subsequent team. Bringing a working, 8-player-minimum buzzer will earn a discount of $5; the number of buzzers a school can claim for discount is equal to the number of teams registered plus one. Teams that bring a moderator, approved by me, can claim a $10 discount. There is no upper limit on the reader discount.

The Greenford Ruritans are hosting their annual pancake breakfast that morning and would be happy to serve you breakfast, too. The cost per person is $5; this will get you all the pancakes you can eat as well as sausage and bacon (not sure if the meat is unlimited). Additionally, they will stick around to serve lunch from 12 to 1. The menu hasn't been determined yet, but the cost per person will be $6. You are STRONGLY encouraged to take advantage of both opportunities for meals on site, but particularly lunch, as there's nothing to eat within a few miles of the school in any direction. Any team that chooses to leave campus for lunch and does not return in time for their first afternoon game will not forfeit, but their opponent for that round will have the advantage of playing against empty chairs until your return.

Morning groups will be created to maximize the opportunity to qualify for OAC Regionals. Playoffs will conclude with finals, if necessary.

In order to ensure a timely break for lunch (and, particularly, the Ruritans who are extended their day for us), the last round before lunch MUST finish at 12 PM. To try to ensure that happens, I'm asking all teams to arrive before 8:30 AM. The opening meeting will be at around 8:45, with the first round beginning at 9. Teams that wish to eat breakfast should arrive well before 8:30.

South Range High School is located at 11300 Columbiana-Canfield Road (State Route 46), Canfield, Ohio 44406.

I look forward to seeing a large field in Raider Country!
