The North High School Quizbowl team would like to invite your team(s) to the first annual OAC Fall Qualifier Tournament, to be held on Saturday, October 15 at North High School in Lake County (Eastlake), Ohio.

The tournament will consist of 8-team round-robin brackets, with each bracket winner qualifying for the OAC regional tournament and taking home a small award. There will be no JV brackets, but JV and younger teams are encouraged to play the set to get better. There is a tentative field cap of 32 teams, although I’ll consider expanding if the interest is there and staff members are available. I’m expecting to have registration from 8-8:30, with a meeting at 8:45 and play beginning at 9. Break for lunch (off-site) at noon, back by one and then finish up by 3. That’s the best-case scenario schedule. I will provide info on various places to eat locally (there are tons) and also numbers for local pizza places if teams would rather order pizza instead.

The questions have mostly been written by me, with small contributions from the quizbowl team at Cambridge University in England, Mike Cheyne (formerly of Minnesota) and several high school players from other states. I am sure this will be one of the best OAC sets produced this entire year. Additionally, the tossups in each category round and all final round questions are 5-6 lines and pyramidal. I’ve gone great lengths to make sure the answer lines are accessible and within the canon of high school academic challenge/quizbowl.

Cost:
$70 for first team
$60 for second team
$50 for any additional teams
-$5 discount for each buzzer system

The cost includes an electronic copy of the question set to be emailed out once all mirrors are complete.

EACH TEAM IS REQUIRED TO BRING AN EXPERIENCED READER FOR THE TOURNAMENT. If you do not provide a reader, the coach WILL be expected to read.

Additionally, former OAC regional/state writer and former OAC committee member Michael Bindis and I have been writing OAC rounds for various leagues around Ohio since 2004. I am offering the yearly sets we've written for very low cost for each set. The prices are way marked down due to the fact I know some questions will be out of date and there are repeats in each set, just not in proximity to one another. Again, all the money from these questions will also go towards my team going to Nationals in 2017. They will be immediately sent out in a .zip file upon order.

The years we have available:
2006-07 (16 rounds) - $10
2007-08 (25 rounds) - $20
2008-09 (75 rounds) - $50
2009-10 (85 rounds) - $60
2010-11 (15 rounds) - $10
2011-12 (28 rounds) - $20
2012-13 (62 rounds) - $40
2013-14 (60 rounds) - $40
2014-15 (60 rounds) - $40
2015-16 (60 rounds) - $40

**There will be repeated answer lines in any given year / across years**
**Feel free to purchase sets from more than one year if you would like**

All checks should be made out to:
North High School (please put "quizbowl" in the memo line)

and mailed to:
Bob Kilner
c/o North High School
34041 Stevens Blvd.
Eastlake, OH 44095

If you are going to pay the day of the tournament -- please let me know.

Please email me at robert.kilner at weschools dot org to register. Include in your email the number of teams, number of buzzers and name(s) of experienced readers.

I am also seeking mirrors for the set. I'm trying to find a mirror in each part of the state. The mirror fee is $10 per team in attendance, which is far lower than any other mirror fees you will find out there. Please email if you're interested in mirroring the tournament.

We look forward to seeing you on the shores of Lake Erie in Eastlake in October -- please email me to register or with questions.

Right now I have 13 spots filled. I can fill the other 3 spots with teams of my kids if necessary, but I'd rather not do that. I'm hoping to get a couple registrations this week and recruit at Solon this Saturday if necessary. I'm planning on going with two brackets of 8 unless I get a bunch of registrations to push it to 18, in which case I'll go three brackets of 6 with some kind of mini-playoff or something at the end.

IF YOU WANT TO COME - EMAIL ME OR POST HERE.

Questions are copied in placed in folders sorted by bracket and round. Alphabet round sheets are copied, answer sheets are copied. Literally just need to finalize the brackets and copy those and I'll be ready for 10/15.

Ready to knock it out of the park.

Hopefully all of you playing it enjoy the set.

Just had Riverside email me that I registered them for the wrong event - they were registering for our league tournament when he emailed me. So because of my own dumb mistake

Smooth move, Bob.

It is what it is, I'm just glad I sent it out today instead of later in the week and that Mike from Riverside had a sharp eye and contacted me immediately.

And just picked up a second Kenston team and a waitlist second Madison team to fill the field. Hopefully everything goes well... I have pretty much everything done except for a few bracket copies to make and some laminating to do.

Good luck to other tournaments running this weekend as well.

Thanks Tyler. And thanks for the help with the set. Between Brian, the Cambridge (UK) team and you -- it made my life a whole lot easier.

Still hoping to pick up another mirror or two in other parts of the state at some point.
