Miami Valley competed today at the Uber-Competitive division of the New Trier Varsity Tournament in Winnetka, Illinois. The tournament ran on the WAO II college set and had a small field of 8 teams. In the round robin, we defeated St. Joseph (IN), Barrington, Homewood-Flossmoor, Sandburg, and Fremd before losing to Latin by 5 points on the last question. We then beat Auburn 145-135 and Latin lost to Fremd, making a final necessary. We lost to Auburn 140-250 for 2nd place and a record of 6-2.
Auburn was definitely the strongest team in the Uber division, and Ethan Strombeck was the best player by far. His auditory fine arts knowledge is easily some of the best I have ever seen. Due to the high difficulty of the set, games were pretty slow and low scoring, but it was a fun and challenging experience for everyone. Readers were great and the tournament ran smoothly. We look forward to returning to high school-difficulty questions in January. Uber stats are posted below.
