1st annual Give Thanks for Quiz Bowl Invitational @ Olentangy Liberty HS in Powell, OH (BELLOCO) on 11.15.14

You are cordially invited to our first tournament ever at OLHS the Give Thanks for Quiz Bowl Invitational. The initial field cap will be 24 teams, but I will try to open that up if there is interest and I can secure enough competent readers.

Teams will be broken into 4 preliminary brackets of 6 teams each and will play round robin. At the conclusion of morning play, teams will be re-bracketed into 4 brackets of 6 to play another round robin, with the top 12 teams at the conclusion of preliminary play being eligible for the tournament championship. A championship match will be played between the winners of the two championship flights in the afternoon.

Each round will consist of 20 tossup questions with 20 3-part bonuses should a team answer a tossup correctly. Tossups will be worth 10 points, with 5-point negs for incorrect interrupts. There will be no powers at this tournament.

FEES:
First Team: $50
Each Additional Team: $40
BUZZER DISCOUNT: -$5 per buzzer system, limit one per team that you are bringing.
MODERATOR DISCOUNT: -$10 for a competent moderator. Please let me know in advance if you are planning to claim this discount.
MINIMUM Fee: $35
To register or for more information, please email cortney_bird [AT] olsd [DOT] us. Checks can be made out to OLHS and put In The Know in the memo. I hope to see you in Powell this November!

This set is regular high school difficulty level with some amount of nonstandard answer line selection. We seek to reward players for knowledge of concepts rather than names of works, particularly in philosophy and social science questions.

This set contains twelve preliminary packets and two finals packets. Each packet includes 21 pyramidal tossups (including one tiebreaker tossup on literature, history or science) without power marks and 20 three-part bonuses. Tossups range from five to six lines, with few questions exceeding six lines, and few bonus parts exceed two lines. The 20/20 distribution is as follows:

Figured I would post the draw for those who are curious. Draws are listed alphabetically. Four brackets of six, then championship flight will have brackets of six with the winners of each playing a final for all the marbles. Bottom 12 will play consolation portion that should in the best case scenario serve as an OAC qualifier, most likely double elimination.

WAMPANOAG - Lewis/Majizadeh, Connor, Linn
Detroit Catholic Central A
Dublin Scioto
Grove City
Olentangy Liberty C
St Charles C
Solon B

WHITE - Hayes (possibly), Lucek, Sedlack
Buckeye Valley A
Detroit Catholic Central C
Fairfield Christian
Fisher Catholic A
Olentangy Liberty A
Pickerington North

SMITH - Grove City (Reader), Moore, Schmelzer
Buckeye Valley B
Detroit Catholic Central B
Solon A
Olentangy Liberty B
Olentangy Liberty E*/potential Grove City or FCA extra
St. Charles B

WESSON - Bird, Bergman, Buckeye Valley (Reader)
Dublin Jerome
Fisher Catholic B
Olentangy Liberty D
St. Charles A
Solon C
Mystery Team

Afternoon championship brackets will be titled "Jameis Winston Takes on the Publix Checkout Line" and "Zdeno Chara Takes on the Teacup Rides at Disney World".

I see alma mater is keeping up in the precedent L. Schmelzer and I set by ordering so much damn pizza. I am however surprised sausage was as big of a fan favorite as it apparently is.

Keep in mind that, as it stands, only one of those groups will be OAC qualifying.

I have since updated the groups. Correct me if I am wrong, but two of those groups will be OAC qualifying, and if we get Buckeye Valley C or a Grove City or FCA B team in the Wesson bracket then all four are OAC qualifiers. Olentangy Liberty D could hypothetically switch with a possible Grove City or FCA B team to make it six schools in the Smith bracket, which would then make all four OAC qualifiers... no?
