I am pleased to announce, with the cooperation of the Ohio State University Academic Team, that OAC Fall II will be held on the beautiful campus of The Ohio State University on Saturday, October 21st, 2017. I, Thomas Moore, will be serving as the tournament director.

This tournament will operate on a question set written and formatted in accordance with the state format, Ohio Academic Competition (OAC), by Bob Kilner (OAC Committee member representing the North Coast region; veteran question writer for various leagues, tournaments, and television shows across the Buckeye State for over ten years now.)

The tournament will initially be limited to 18 teams, and schools will only be allowed to enter two teams upon their original registration. If it is apparent that the tournament will not reach 18 teams by October 9th, then any schools interested in bringing a third team will be permitted to enter them into the field.

Fee structure: $55/team.

Discount structure: $5 per buzzer system, limit two per team that is brought (e.g. if a school brings two teams, the buzzer discount applies for up to four sets of buzzers.) $10 per experienced reader, subject to approval (I need to be informed before the morning of the tournament who the reader is and what their credentials are.)

To register, please e-mail me, Thomas Moore, at <tomoore@owu.edu> (or you can post here!)

We hope to see you in October!

It appears that OAC Fall II, along with St. Charles' OAC event in November, will be the only two tournaments in Central Ohio in the fall of 2017, with no events in the area in December and no other weekends aside from 11/11 being claimed.

In light of this, I am going to revise the initial cap of 18 into a soft cap of 18 instead, with the potential for field expansion into 24. That way, more of the local teams will have a better chance at playing an event before January (such as, if they can't do 11/11 for St. Charles' event.)

Due to Ohio State's home football schedule blocking out certain dates, and with respect to other competition dates in Ohio, the competition date for OAC Fall II being 10/21 will stay as is. If your team is not able to attend on 10/21 but is looking for an event (or two) to play in the fall of 2017, then I suggest considering the list of events located here. They're all high-quality events that I endorse.

Northmont will have one team for sure, and likely a second team.

Fisher Catholic A & B added to field.

Still some space in the field, but better to register sooner than rather.

Updated with an expanded interest list and a wait list.

If you're looking to play, register ASAP. The date when stand-by teams become registered is 10/9.

Four spots left, five interested teams and three waitlisted. Who's getting in?

FWIW, Tom and I are about 80% finished with the set. We still need to write the history categories and life science and about 20 lightning round questions. Tiebreaker questions still need to be written as well. I'm confident we'll have it done this week so we have a few days to go through and make final edits, but it should be a great set of questions.

With the addition of St. Charles C, the field is now CLOSED; we are full at 18 of 18 teams. If you are still interested in attending the event, please contact me by 2:00pm Friday the 13th to be put on the wait list. Sometimes a school might need to cut back a team or have to cancel, thus it is wise to at least put in for the wait list since it is always possible there could be a late opening. I WILL NOT ADD TO THE WAIT LIST AFTER THIS DEADLINE, AND WE WILL PLAY THE TOURNAMENT WITH THE FIELD AS IS.

Coaches, you will be receiving a second update e-mail from me shortly.

Update: Bishop Hartley has withdrawn. Fisher Catholic C is no longer able to attend, and Alex has agreed to put St Charles D on standby status. Beavercreek is in.

Thus, while our field is full yet again, our wait list is effectively empty. Email me if you want to have the next open spot.

The set is complete and fully edited. I have emailed it to Tom and Brian for printing.

After the tournament Saturday, if anyone comes across any repeats, typos or factual errors, please either email me or send me a DM here so I can fix them for our mirror the following weekend. That will be exceptionally helpful.

Good luck to all teams at OSU this weekend - I hope you like what Tom and I (mainly with small help from Mike Bindis and a couple others) have put together.
