2017 Miami Invitational, 2/11

Postby TwoHeaded_Beast » Sun Feb 12, 2017 5:13 pm

Yesterday was the Miami Invitational at Miami University. The tournament was complete with strong showings from established teams, first appearances for new teams, and no teams left undefeated by the end of the day. Though Miami Valley A won the tournament, we lost a match to Walnut Hills in their first NAQT tournament of the season. Interestingly enough, our middle school team (Miami Valley B), which placed third, never lost to Walnut Hills, winning 565-105 in their only encounter. The day ended with an exciting final in which Miami Valley A defeated Walnut Hills A 420-180. Walnut Hills qualified for HSNCT, and Clinton-Massie won a bid to SSNCT. Thanks to Miami University and Greg Bossick for running a great tournament. We hope this event happens again next season.

Walnut Hills used to be pretty active when I played, but they don't do as many events. Regardless of how many or how few events they play, one can never count them out of a game. Pretty talented student body and decently sized school = strong chance of finding good quiz bowl talent.
