Yellow Jacket Invitational April 1, 2017

Postby Bickel » Wed Jan 11, 2017 12:11 pm

The Sidney Academia Team will be hosting the fifth annual Yellow Jacket Invitational on Saturday, April 1st, 2017. The tournament will be a mirror of this year's BHSAT set- BHSAT XXVI a regular-difficulty high school set written and edited by members of the Yale quizbowl team.

All teams will be guaranteed ten games, and the cap for the field is 36 teams.

Fee Structure:
$65 for the first team
$55 for any other teams
-$5 per buzzer set (limited to the number of teams you are bringing)
-$10 per experienced moderator (please get in touch with me if you plan to take this discount)

Checks should be made out to Sidney Academia, and payment may be made in advance (mail to Sidney High School Attn: Brett Bickel, 1215 Campbell Road, Sidney, OH 45365) or may be brought the day of the tournament.

Further details on the BHSAT XXVI set:
The difficulty of this year's BHSAT will be in the same range as the BHSAT sets from past years (2011-2016), i.e. aiming at the "core" of an advanced high school curriculum. You can peruse those to your heart's content on quizbowlpackets.com.

Packets will be distributed as follows:
4/4 Literature (at least 1/1 each American, British, European, .5/.5 one more of the above, .5/.5 World)
4/4 Science (1/1 biology, 1/1 chemistry, 1/1 physics, 1/1 other science, with a heavy focus on math)
4/4 History (1/1 American, 2/2 European/British/Ancient, 1/1 "World"; Canadian/Australian where appropriate in context)
3/3 Fine Arts (1/1 Visual, 1/1 Auditory including jazz, 1/1 "audiovisual"—ballet, film, opera—and "usable"—architecture, design, ceramics, etc.)
2/2 "Beliefs" (1/1 Religion, 1/1 Mythology)
1/1 "Thought" (roughly .5/.5 each Social Science and Philosophy)
2/2 "Modern World" (1/1 split approximately 2:1 between geography and current events, 1/1 pop culture/Trash

Please e-mail me at Brett.Bickel@sidneycityschools.org or post here to register. Hope to see you in April

Agreed. Plus, it looks like they are also attending the mirror of SCOP Novice at Northmont in a couple of weeks. The SCOP set and David's emphasis on it being a novice/inexperienced players' tournament will make for a pretty comfortable and enjoyable introduction to tossup/bonus for pyramidal newcomers Zanesville.

Sycamore

It is good to see Sycamore express interest. Any indication if its an advisor that reached out and expressed interest, or if it were students? When they last were active on the "Saturday circuit" about four-to-five years ago (doesn't seem that long ago, but alas), it was a group of students that went to events "under the radar." If their advisor is willing to take them to events then it's a win-win for everyone involved. Hopefully the Aves can make it on the 1st and to other events!

The only thing I know about Sycamore is that they LOVE science bowl way more than is healthy.
