The Case Western Reserve University Trivia Team is proud to present our first Rock and Roll Hall of Shame, a high school trash tournament to kick off the new season, on September 26, 2015 at CWRU in Cleveland, Ohio.

Trash questions are taken from the areas of popular culture including movies, television, music, sports, games, computers, video games, etc.; anything not really considered "academic." As this will likely be the first tournament of the season that students play in, the goal of the tournament is to kick off the new year and expose students to the fun that is quizbowl without just having rigorous academic questions. That said, this tournament is not meant solely for novice players, since it is often the case that experienced teams who would normally excel at academic questions are awful at trash questions (and vice versa). There is no separate division for JV players; all teams will play in the same division.

The set is currently in production and will be a house-written collaboration of the CWRU Trivia Team. The matches will be tossup/bonus (NAQT/HSAPQ) format, 20 questions per round. The distribution will be roughly 6/6 Movies/TV, 4/4 Music, 4/4 Gaming, 3/3 Sports, and 3/3 Potpourri.

At the current field, we will place everybody into a single bracket and play 7 rounds of single round-robin. If more teams would like to sign up, that would still be excellent; we can split teams into two brackets and then re-bracket in the afternoon.
Registration will close on Friday, September 25th

Fee Structure:
Base team fee: $40
Buzzer discount: -$5 per working set
Moderator discount: -$10 per competent moderator
Travel discount: -$5 per 100 miles traveled (via Google Maps)
Minimum fee: $15
When registering, be sure to let us know if you will be bringing buzzers and/or readers.

Because Olentangy Liberty will potentially be hosting a mirror of this tournament around February, we will not send out a copy of the questions used at the tournament immediately afterwards. If teams would like a copy of the questions later in the spring semester, just shoot us an email at that time.

SCHEDULE:
*note: the closest parking is in Lot 1M (10900 Euclid Ave, Cleveland, OH 44106), or any other lot nearby you desire (e.g. Veale Parking Garage)
8-8:30 Registration in Rockefeller Room 301 (Rockefeller and all game room buildings are located on the Case Western quad)
8:45 - General Meeting
9am - Round 1 starts (play will be in the Sears building)
11:30 - 12:30 - Lunch - Most folks go to places on Euclid Avenue, Little Italy or the University Hospital cafeteria.
12:45 - 3:30 - Remaining Rounds
3:30pm - Winning announcements in Rockefeller Room 301

**Please note: schedule is tentative. This is a best-case scenario schedule.

As you can see from the schedule above -- registration runs until 8:30 with the meeting shortly thereafter. Unless there's some unforeseen disaster (e.g. car accident, fire on the Cuyahoga, etc.), we will be starting play right at 9am, so plan accordingly to be at CWRU by 8:15, 8:30 at the latest.
If you do run into difficulties arriving on time the day of the tournament, you can contact our President, James Sullivan, at 937-489-8537.

The championship and runner-up teams will receive awards, and hopefully we will also have individuals awards.

Please make the check out to "CWRU College Trivia Club" and mail to:

James Sullivan
11477 Mayfield Rd #806
Cleveland, Ohio 44106

Additionally, you can bring the check/cash with you the morning of the tournament - please email our President at jss179@case.edu if you will be doing this.

***Please note - this tournament is not in any way affiliated with the trash tournament run by Bob Kilner in December, nor is it a replacement of said tournament. We encourage teams to attend both tournaments, and especially to support us in our endeavors as we come out of our transition period and hope to run a smooth tournament afresh.

If you have any questions or wish to register, please email James (jss179@case.edu) - we look forward to seeing you at Case on September 26th!

Thanks,
Tyler McMaken

Tyler the OQBA would like to mirror this set 2/2016 at two sites. New Albany has agreed to mirror it for central Ohio and Waverly for the southern mirror. Waverly is looking at the 13th(tentative) and New Albany is closing in on a date maybe the 20th.

Please let the New Albany coach know that it is a housewritten set - I wrote the set the last time they mirrored it.

*Not saying there's anything wrong with the quality - I just want the CWRU guys to get credit for writing it.
