Rock and Roll Hall of Shame II @CWRU 09.24.16

The Case Western Reserve University Trivia Team is pleased to announce the second iteration of Rock and Roll Hall of Shame, a high school trash tournament to kick off the new season, on September 24, 2016 at CWRU in Cleveland, Ohio.

Trash questions are taken from the areas of popular culture including movies, television, music, sports, games, computers, video games, etc.; anything not really considered "academic." As this will likely be the first tournament of the season that students play in, the goal of the tournament is to kick off the new year and expose students to the fun that is quizbowl without just having rigorous academic questions. That said, this tournament is not meant solely for novice players, since it is often the case that experienced teams who would normally excel at academic questions are awful at trash questions (and vice versa). There is no separate division for JV players; all teams will play in the same division.

The set is currently in production and will be a house-written collaboration of the CWRU Trivia Team. The matches will be tossup/bonus (NAQT/HSAPQ) format, 20 power-marked questions per round. The distribution is currently set as 7/7 Movies/TV, 3/3 Music, 3/3 Gaming, 4/4 Sports, 2/2 Internet/Technology, and 2/2 Miscellaneous, though we are open to any suggestions/requests.

FEE STRUCTURE:
Base team fee: $45 per team
Additional teams discount: -$10 per extra team
Buzzer discount: -$5 per working set (max 1 per team)
Travel discount: -$10 per 100 miles traveled (via Google Maps)

Registration will close on Wednesday, September 21st.
To register, send an email to our President, Tyler McMaken (me), at tcm49@case.edu with the number of teams your school will be bringing and all discounts of which you intend to take advantage.
The cost includes your very own copy of the questions used at the tournament.
Please bring your payment with you the morning of the tournament, either cash or check (made out to “CWRU College Trivia Club”).

SCHEDULE:
*note: parking is available at Veale Parking Garage (2158 Adelbert Rd. Cleveland, OH 44106), with a parking fee of $10
8-8:30 Registration in Rockefeller Room 301 (Rockefeller and all game room buildings are located on the Case Western quad)
8:45 - General Meeting
9am - Round 1 starts (play will be in the Sears building)
11:30 - 12:30 - Lunch – There are places to eat on Euclid Avenue, Little Italy or the University Hospital cafeteria.
12:45 - 3:30 - Remaining Rounds
3:30pm - Winning announcements

**Please note: schedule is tentative. This is a best-case scenario schedule.

As you can see from the schedule above -- registration runs until 8:30 with the meeting shortly thereafter. Unless there's some unforeseen disaster (e.g. car accident, fire on the Cuyahoga, etc.), we will be starting play right at 9am, so plan accordingly to be at CWRU by 8:15, 8:30 at the latest.
If you do run into difficulties arriving on time the day of the tournament, you can contact me (Tyler) at 614-620-4275.

The championship and runner-up teams will receive awards, and hopefully we will also have individuals awards.

***Please note - this tournament is not in any way affiliated with the trash tournament run by Bob Kilner in December, nor is it a replacement of said tournament. We encourage teams to attend both tournaments, and especially to support us in our endeavors as we continue our success from last year’s tournament.

MIRRORS:
This set will likely be mirrored at other sites across Ohio during the spring semester:
Central Ohio: New Albany High School (Feb. 18, 2017)
Southern Ohio: Waverly High School (Feb. 4, 2017)

If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or wish to register, please email me (tcm49@case.edu) - we look forward to seeing you at Case on September 24th!

Thanks,
Tyler McMaken
