New Albany High School is proud to announce that we will be hosting Spring Trash Tournament, an all-pop culture tournament at New Albany High School on Saturday, March 22, 2014. The set is currently in production and will feature questions by Bob Kilner, Tom Moore, Shashank Raghavachari, Kenji Golimlim, John Timmer, Alex Connor, Dan Pechi, S. Gangavarapu, W. Ali, Matt Laird, and small contributions by others.
TRASH questions are taken from the areas of movies, tv, music, sports, games, computers, video games, etc., anything not really considered "academic."
**There will be several other mirrors of this tournament going on around the state on the same day** - The tournament is being edited by Bob Kilner with contributions from various writers around the midwest. The set is expected to be of high quality, yet fun for all players. This is a great chance for those players that might not be great on academic questions but awesome on trash questions, to shine.
Our plan is to have 8-team brackets, so that every team is guaranteed seven rounds. At that point, all bracket winners and a set number of wild cards will be seeded into an 8-team single elimination bracket until a winner is crowned. Therefore, all teams are guaranteed 7 games. The matches will be tossup/bonus (NAQT/HSAPQ) format, 20 questions per round.
The cost for this year's tournament is $60 per team with a $5 discount per buzzer set (no limit). All registrations come with a copy of the questions, emailed out once all mirrors are complete. Remember, nobody wants to play slap bowl, so bringing buzzers and receiving your discount is also a wise idea. We will have several of our own readers available, but if you have additional volunteers, please let me know.
Registration will occur from 8-8:30 with the general meeting following shortly thereafter and play beginning no later than 9 am. WE WILL NOT WAIT FOR YOU! Unless there's some unforeseen disaster (a blizzard the night before, a car accident, etc), we will be starting play at 9am, so plan accordingly to be at NAHS by 8:30 at the latest. (A map with parking and building locations will be sent with your registration confirmation.)
The championship and runner-up teams will receive awards, as will the top several individual scorers in the preliminaries and the best neg (wrong answer) of the day. Please remember however, this is a TRASH tournament, so prizes are generally trashy.
Please note: You CANNOT use this tournament as a qualifier for OAC regionals.
Please make the check out to New Albany High School. Checks can be mailed to the address below, or brought the day of the tournament.
